Cox receives the Sustainable Development Award at the Economist Awards gala

  • This award from top economists is yet another example of Cox’s financial strength and exemplary commitment to sustainability.

The College of Economists of Alicante (Spain), which each year recognizes those outstanding personalities from the economic, business and institutional world who have actively contributed to the development of the economy and innovation in the province of Alicante and in Spain, has awarded Cox the Sustainable Development Award for its global leadership in desalination technology and renewable energies. Enrique Riquelme, Executive Chairman of Cox, oversaw collecting the award at the III Edition of the Economist Awards Gala. The ceremony took place on March 26, at the Teatro Principal in Alicante.

Cox’s commitment to renewable energies and business sustainability was key to the Alicante Association of Economists and the distinction that has earned us this award. At Cox, we take on challenges to deliver value wherever it is present, and this award is a testament to the positive impact that desalination and renewable energy technologies have on society and the environment.

For Cox, this award from top economists is yet another sign of the financial strength and economic stability that Cox has today, while encouraging us to continue moving in the same direction, towards sustainable prosperity.

Our CEO said that at Cox, sustainable development permeates its entire business structure. “Sustainable development is not just renewable energy, but it entails something much deeper. To be sustainable, you also have to be financially sustainable, because environmental or social sustainability could not exist without economic sustainability.” And he added: “Receiving the recognition from the College of Economists of Alicante is an honor for us and a sign that we are moving in the right direction”.

Cox is a water and energy utility that sees opportunities where others only see barriers, so our commitment to sustainability and significant contribution to the development of technologies that help preserve the environment go much further. This award underscores the importance of innovation and environmental responsibility in business, values that Cox demonstrates every day in its projects and operations.

Along with Cox, the gala also awarded other personalities and entities for their outstanding contribution to economic and social growth, such as the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), among others.
