Cox Recognized for Excellence in Desalination with Awards for Rabigh 3 and Shuaibah 2 Plants in Saudi Arabia

Madrid, December 4, 2024. Cox, a Spanish multinational listed on the Continuous Market and renowned for its innovative solutions in water and energy, has been honored by the Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) for its leadership in desalination. The company received the prestigious “Reliability Excellence Award” for its Rabigh 3 plant. The award ceremony was attended by Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, Bin Abdulmohsen, alongside top executives from SWPC (Saudi Water Partnership Company).

Rabigh 3, which began operations in 2021, is located in the city of Rabigh on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast and boasts a desalination capacity of 600,000 cubic meters per day. The award is one of the most respected in the industry, recognized by clients and stakeholders alike, as it highlights the plant’s reliability and performance since its commissioning. This accolade marks the fifth major award for Rabigh 3, reaffirming its operational excellence, efficiency, and quality, as well as its high degree of compliance. The plant’s achievements were already recognized with the following awards in 2022:

  • Guinness World Records™ 2022: For Rabigh 3 as the largest reverse osmosis desalination plant worldwide.

  • Desalination Plant of the Year 2022: Awarded by MEED.
  • Mega Project of the Year 2022: Also awarded by MEED.

During the same ceremony, the Shuaibah 2 desalination plant, also constructed by Cox through Cox Water, was awarded the “Private Sector Operational Excellence Award” for the third consecutive year. This facility has a desalination capacity of 250,000 cubic meters per day.

Both accolades underscore the outstanding quality and excellence of Cox’s desalination projects over the years, not only in Saudi Arabia but also in other countries where the company operates.
