Cox Receives Best Water Positive + Company Award at the Water and Climate Change Summit

The company has been awarded the Best Water Positive + Company recognition by the International Desalination Association (IDA), during the Water and Climate Change Summit. This is one of the most significant events in the water and desalination sector. For this edition, commemorating its 50th anniversary, the event was held in Seville, the headquarters of Cox, a multinational specializing in desalination.

Quality

Cox has a quality management system in place, certified according to the UNE-EN ISO 9001:2015 standard. This system focuses on process management, risk and opportunity identification, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement to meet customer needs and expectations.

Safety and Health

Cox has a workplace safety and health management system certified according to the UNE-EN ISO 45001:2023 standard, designed to protect workers and visitors from accidents and occupational diseases, aiming to mitigate any factors that could cause irreparable harm to employees or the business.

COX adheres to the Luxembourg Declaration as a healthy company, committing to integrate basic health promotion principles in managing workers’ health and is part of the Spanish Network of Healthy Companies (REES).

The company has also been recognized by the Chilean Chamber of Construction in its safety and health honor roll. This award highlights companies that have excelled in occupational safety and demonstrate commitment to the goal of eliminating fatal accidents.

Environment

Cox has an environmental management system certified according to the UNE-EN ISO 14001:2015 standard, which specifies the most important requirements for identifying and controlling the organization’s environmental aspects. The company also has an energy management system certified according to the UNE-EN ISO 50001:2018 standard, providing structured policies, processes, procedures, and action plans to implement energy-saving opportunities and achieve continuous energy management improvement.

Both systems are established to prevent and mitigate negative environmental impacts, with a global and strategic goal.

Climate Change

In 2023, Cox received a C rating in the Climate Change questionnaire of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), a sustainability index where the organization transparently reports its environmental impact and climate change management to contribute to building a sustainable economy.

Furthermore, Cox obtained a C rating in the Supplier Engagement Rating Report (SER), which measures the effectiveness of the organization’s engagement with its suppliers in the fight against climate change.

Equality & Diversity

Since 2018, the group has been a signatory of the Diversity Charter, which commits to respecting regulations on equal opportunities and non-discrimination. It also commits to basic principles of diversity and equal opportunities, aimed at building, promoting, recognizing, communicating, and raising awareness on these issues among our workforce and stakeholders.

In this regard, Cox has joined Mujeres Líderes de América, an organization working since 2000 to generate connections and promote social change for women.

The company has collaborated with Womenalia to promote the professional development of women and implement social impact projects, such as encouraging girls and adolescents’ interest in STEM careers through connections with prominent female professionals, supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the 2030 agenda.

 

Cox has also participated in the Women Approved Best Practices STEM 2023, promoted by the Institute Más Mujeres, pioneers in collaborative programs promoting equality and inclusion. This initiative aims to address the challenges of promoting female talent in the tech sector to achieve a more equitable future. The company has worked on raising awareness among the entire workforce through activities and initiatives presented in a game format to raise awareness about Diversity & Inclusion (D&I).

Partner of Exus Management Partners (Exus) and GenuX Power, a global renewable energy platform with offices in nine countries, managing 11GW of installed capacity, including 2.6GW in Mexico between wind and solar energy projects. Holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at NYU in New York, and a bachelors degree in Accounting and Finance from ITESM in Mexico.

Prior to joining EXUS in 2019, he founded EIRA Capital, an investment platform focused on Energy and Infrastructure transactions in Mexico, and Latin America. He was also part of Australia’s Macquarie Group in Latin America, where he spent more than 7 years in the Macquarie Capital and Macquarie Funds divisions, working on fund capital raising, equity investments, asset management activities, as well as third party advisory roles on energy and infrastructure transactions in Mexico and Latin America. During his years at Macquarie, he also held board positions in the several investments made by Macquarie which covered energy, public private partnerships, roads, and telecom companies. In addition, his previous involvement at financial institutions include positions in the investment banking teams of Deutsche Bank’s M&A group in New York, and Citibank’s M&A group in Mexico.

Other former relevant positions include his role as independent member of the investment committee of the Instituto del Fondo Nacional de la Vivienda para los Trabajadores (Mexican mortgages and housing government agency).

Presidente Ejecutivo de Cox, tras iniciar su andadura profesional en el sector inmobiliario y de la construcción, en 2010 fundó Grupo El Sol en Panamá, especializado en operaciones de minería, cemento, infraestructuras y energía. Con el tiempo, la empresa se convertiría en el mayor proveedor de arena de la UTE responsable de la ampliación del canal de Panamá. Posteriormente, pasó a liderar las fases de oferta y desarrollo de Rainbow 50: el proyecto fotovoltaico de mayor envergadura ejecutado en América Latina hasta aquel momento.

Ha recibido varios galardones por su contribución al mundo empresarial en España, entre ellos el Premio del Certamen Nacional de Jóvenes Emprendedores 2018. También ha sido distinguido como uno de los «100 latinos más influyentes comprometidos con la acción climática» y uno de los «100 españoles más creativos del mundo de los negocios» según la revista Forbes. Actualmente, es miembro del Consejo Internacional de la San Telmo Business School y preside el Consejo Asesor de la Fundación Scholas para Panamá, Centroamérica y Caribe.
